What is Health Coaching?

We’ve all had the standard bad healthcare experience – we describe our symptoms and ailments just to hear that what we are experiencing is normal. We leave unsatisfied wondering, “is this really normal?” How would your experience have been different if you were asked about your stress, home life, and relationships? What could you accomplish knowing you are supported and encouraged to be your best self?

That’s what you can expect when working with an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach!

Integrative Nutrition is to be heard and supported in a safe space that takes all your daily obstacles into consideration. It acknowledges the person and their health concerns within the framework of their respective lives.

Our health coach program is a co-creative experience where the client decides the changes they’d like to make while receiving support and accountability from the coach. With small changes implemented slowly, our clients continuously gain positive momentum and ownership of their health which rewrites their story and frees them of sub-optimal health.

So, how can we optimize our health from a whole-person perspective?

We work within two food groups: Primary and Secondary Foods. Primary foods are how we feed ourselves off the plate – our careers, finances, relationships, home environment and our spirituality. Often, when there is an imbalance in this food group there is an imbalance in the secondary (and vice versa). Likewise when we feel fulfilled on an emotional and spiritual level, it’s much easier to honor that by choosing healthy foods.

Secondary foods are how we literally feed ourselves – coffee, eggs, bread, vegetables, prescriptions, alcohol, etc. We learn to balance secondary foods from a primal perspective so that we are feeding ourselves to heal and create sustainable energy while honoring our sacred connection to food by discussing traditions, cravings, and habits.

Each of our lives are constructed so uniquely, and that’s where the balance and harmony of these two groups is so important. Integrative Nutrition respects your bio-individuality and works under the premise that one person’s medicine can be another person’s poison.

You might be thinking, “Great, now I have to make the right choices nutritionally and figure out all my life goals??” Working with a health coach makes this part easy. It takes the pressure off the client by removing them from the framework of fad diets and extreme lifestyle shifts. Our program is not one of strict regiments but is steadily adjusted through small recommendations that naturally build progressive momentum and long-term results. We focus on the healthy changes we can make to crowd out the behaviors that don’t serve us.

Working with a health coach won’t replace the need of having a Primary Care Physician or speaking with a Registered Dietitian who are trained to advise those suffering from severe chronic illnesses. In fact, working with a health coach should be used in coordination with your current health care providers and for those looking to optimize their health but don’t know where to start. Holistic health is at the forefront of our mission – transforming lives to be confident, fulfilled, and in control of their health.
